Soup’s On

Lately every day I struggle to fight the urge to binge.  And lately I have been losing that struggle.  My clothes are tighter, my energy is down and in turn my mood has not been the best.  However, the war is not over….. not by a long shot.  Yesterday I won the battle by resisting the donuts that were left over from a work meeting as well as my urge to binge on sugar after dinner.

I know, it’s a small success, but it was a success and one that I hope will boost my resolve to continue to fight.

On Sunday I made soup.  Fall is officially here.  The air is crisp.  The leaves are falling.  And I made soup.  The recipe for this Hearty Lentil & Black Bean Soup can be found on the Cooking Canuck site.

I made a few modifications to the recipe by adding cilantro instead of parsley and topping the finished bowl of soup with some grated ricotta salata (I would have used Mexican Cotija, but could not find any).  The recipe also called for blending a portion of the soup to make it smooth.  I decided to leave mine as is.  It was delicious, hearty and healthy.  Hubby declared it a success as well.

I also baked on Sunday.  Yes, I did say baked, but no fear as my baking was one of building a defense to fight off my sugar craze of late.  A recipe I found while completing my Whole 30 was for a Paleo Banana Bread by the Civilized Caveman.  No sugar, no wheat and I added some good bittersweet chocolate chips (to ease my cravings).  Instead of making into a loaf, I made this into individual portioned muffins.  This is my “desert” after dinner with a cup of herbal spiced tea.

So the war continues.  I may lose some battles along the way, but I intend on being stalwart and win the war.

  1. When I cut out fructose it sorted out my cravings completely. I now eat a handful of berries now and again and the occasional other pieces of fruit but am mindful of the impact on my body and frame of mind. If I ‘need’ or fancy something a tsp of peanut butter usually does the trick. 😊

    1. Thank you for the tip. I have substituted fruit for an afternoon snack as I have a stretch between lunch and dinner of normally about 6 to 7 hours. I have found that helps. I’ve also noticed that since I have been avoiding refined sugars for the past three days (a little pure maple syrup on my oatmeal in the morning) my cravings have gone way down. The Paleo Banana bread muffins have helped tremedoulsy at night as well.
